Beyond Hours in Bed: Understanding the Science of Restorative Sleep
We often measure our sleep by the clock: Did I get eight hours? But the amount of time you spend in bed is not the same as the quality of rest your body actually receives.
For reference, the CDC recommends that most adults get at least 7 hours of sleep a night. But as this webinar explores, hours alone don’t tell the whole story.
During the night, your brain and body cycle through distinct stages of sleep. Researchers believe these stages support immune function, help process daily memories, and aid the body’s repair processes. They also think the glymphatic system, which scientists believe helps clear waste from the brain, is most active during sleep, though this area is still being studied.
Yet, many of us unknowingly engage in everyday habits that disrupt this delicate natural cycle.
To help clarify the science behind restorative rest, natural health educator Trevor King is hosting a free, educational webinar: The Importance of Sleep. This session is designed to explore why so many people struggle to achieve deep, restorative sleep and what practical, research-supported steps can be taken to improve the sleeping environment.

What the Webinar Will Cover
According to the event description, this live educational session will explore several key areas of sleep science:
- The Hidden Cost of Poor Sleep: Why sleep deprivation impacts far more than just daytime energy levels, including its association with long-term health risks.
- The Brain’s Overnight Detox: An overview of the glymphatic system and emerging research suggesting that consistently cutting sleep short may interfere with the clearance of proteins linked to neurodegenerative conditions.
- Duration vs. Quality: Why eight hours in bed does not automatically equal eight hours of rest, and an explanation of the deep sleep stages that are often missed.
- The Temperature Connection: The physiological role of core body temperature in sleep onset and maintenance, along with simple, practical bedroom adjustments.
- Evening Saboteurs: Common, everyday habits that inadvertently disrupt deep sleep architecture.
- The Physiology of Rest: What happens inside the body during truly restorative sleep, from hormone regulation to cellular recovery.
- A Practical Framework: A simple, natural evening routine structure grounded in current sleep hygiene research, requiring no prescriptions or specialized gadgets.
Keep in mind: While the webinar cites scientific concepts, some topics (like the direct long-term impact of specific sleep habits on neurodegenerative disease) are areas of ongoing research and should be viewed as part of a broader health picture, not as settled, definitive medical fact.
Who May Find This Webinar Useful?
This event may be a helpful educational resource if you:
- Frequently wake up feeling unrefreshed, despite spending adequate time in bed.
- Are interested in learning the biological mechanisms behind sleep stages and sleep hygiene.

Solving the Chronic Inflammation Puzzle Workshop

Beyond the Symptoms: Understanding the Chronic Inflammation Puzzle
Symptoms such as persistent fatigue, joint discomfort, skin flare-ups, digestive irregularities, and cognitive fog are often the body’s way of signaling that a physiological imbalance exists. However, it is critical to recognize that these signs are highly nonspecific. They can be indicative of a wide range of medical conditions, including thyroid dysfunction, autoimmune disorders, nutritional deficiencies, clinical depression, or gastrointestinal diseases.
Always consult a licensed healthcare provider to rule out underlying medical causes before attributing these symptoms solely to lifestyle factors or “chronic inflammation.”
For those who have already undergone professional medical evaluation and are seeking to better understand the broader landscape of immune function, the Solving the Chronic Inflammation Puzzle Workshop offers an educational overview. Hosted by health educator Jason Prall on Wednesday, November 4th, this free session is designed to explore the theoretical frameworks surrounding persistent immune activation and how lifestyle factors intersect with overall well-being.
Event Details:
Event Name: Solving the Chronic Inflammation Puzzle Workshop
Event Starts: November 4 2026
Event Cost: FREE to Attend Online
⚠️ Crucial Medical Disclaimer: This article and the associated workshop are for general educational and informational purposes only. They do not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Persistent symptoms require professional medical evaluation to rule out serious conditions such as autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular issues, or malignancies. Always consult a licensed healthcare provider before making significant dietary or lifestyle changes.
Meet Your Host: Jason Prall
Jason Prall is a health educator, speaker, and the creator of The Human Longevity Project documentary series. His work focuses on translating complex health and wellness concepts into accessible, conversational formats.
Please note: Jason Prall is not a medical doctor, immunologist, or registered dietitian. His presentations are intended for educational exploration and should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.
What the Workshop Says It Covers
According to the event description, this live educational session will explore several conceptual frameworks:
- Hidden Drivers: The host’s perspective on overlooked lifestyle or environmental factors that may contribute to persistent immune activation, which he suggests are sometimes missed in conventional settings.
- The Suppression Paradox: Why merely masking inflammatory symptoms without addressing underlying triggers may be counterproductive to long-term wellness.
- The Gut-Brain-Immune Axis: An overview of the theoretical connections between digestive health, nervous system regulation, and systemic immune responses.
- Long-Term Health Trajectories: The host’s explanation of how prolonged, low-grade immune activation is discussed in relation to broader health challenges, including metabolic, neurological, and cardiovascular conditions.
Keep in mind: These topics represent the host’s educational framework. While the connection between chronic inflammation and various diseases is a major focus of modern medical research, specific root-cause protocols should always be personalized and supervised by a licensed clinician.
Who May Find This Workshop Useful?
- You have already consulted a physician to rule out acute medical conditions and are seeking a broader educational overview of immune health.
- You feel overwhelmed by conflicting wellness information and want to learn how to ask more informed questions about inflammation.
- You are a health coach or wellness practitioner looking for an introductory framework to discuss with clients (while strictly staying within your scope of practice).
Who Is This NOT For?
- Individuals experiencing new, severe, or undiagnosed symptoms (such as unexplained weight loss, persistent pain, or severe digestive issues) who need prompt medical evaluation.
- Anyone seeking a “miracle cure,” a definitive diagnosis, or a replacement for prescribed medical treatments.
- Those looking for a rigid, prescriptive health protocol rather than an educational discussion to bring to their healthcare team.
What You May Take Away
You may come away with a clearer conceptual understanding of how the immune system is theorized to function in a state of persistent activation. More importantly, you may gain a better vocabulary to use when discussing your symptoms with a physician or registered dietitian, shifting the conversation from “How do I suppress this?” to “What underlying factors should we investigate together?”
The Real Benefit: A Shift in Perspective
The most valuable outcome of an educational event like this is empowerment through knowledge. By understanding the basic mechanisms of immune responses, you can become a more proactive, informed partner in your own healthcare journey, rather than relying on unverified internet trends or restrictive fad protocols.

Food Sensitivity Solution Workshop

Beyond the Elimination Diet: Uncovering the Root Cause of Food Sensitivities
Many people who deal with food reactions, constipation, bloating, skin issues, fatigue and pain spend years managing symptoms. No matter how many foods they cut out, lasting relief can feel out of reach.
Food reactions don’t always follow the classic pattern of stomach pain or digestive distress. People sometimes link them to symptoms that seem unrelated, such as:
- Headaches and migraines
- Fatigue, especially after eating
- Brain fog and trouble concentrating
- Skin issues like eczema or acne
- Joint pain
- Mood swings or anxiety
- Disrupted sleep
These symptoms are nonspecific and have many possible causes, including anemia, thyroid problems, sleep disorders, celiac disease, stress and more. If you have several of them, see a doctor to rule out medical causes before assuming a food sensitivity is behind them.
That is the starting point for the Food Sensitivity Solution Workshop, a free live session hosted by Jason Prall on Thursday, October 29, 2026. It’s designed as an educational overview for people who feel stuck in a cycle of restrictive diets and want to better understand food reactions.
Event Details:
Event Name: Food Sensitivity Solution Workshop
Event Starts: October 29 2026
Event Cost: FREE to Attend Online
⚠️ Crucial Medical Disclaimer: This article and the associated workshop are for general educational and informational purposes only. They do not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Food sensitivities can mimic or coexist with serious medical conditions such as celiac disease or inflammatory bowel disease. Always consult a licensed healthcare provider or registered dietitian before making significant dietary changes, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, managing an autoimmune condition, or taking medications.
Allergy, Intolerance, Celiac, or “Sensitivity”? Know the Difference First
These terms get mixed up, and the difference matters:
- Food allergy: an immune reaction that can be serious or life-threatening (hives, swelling, trouble breathing). It needs a doctor or allergist.
- Food intolerance: a digestive problem, not an allergy. Lactose intolerance is the best-known example. It causes gas, bloating or diarrhea after the trigger food.
- Celiac disease: an autoimmune reaction to gluten that damages the small intestine. It’s diagnosed with blood tests and sometimes a biopsy. Don’t cut out gluten before being tested, because eating less gluten can make the tests unreliable.
- “Food sensitivity”: a loose, non-medical term for feeling unwell after certain foods. It’s often assessed with commercial tests, such as IgG panels. Major allergy organizations don’t recommend IgG food tests for diagnosis, so a “positive” result on one doesn’t prove a food is causing your symptoms.
If you suspect any of the first three, start with a doctor, not a workshop.
Meet Your Host: Jason Prall
Jason Prall is the host of The Human Longevity Project documentary series and a health educator. His published bio describes him as a former mechanical engineer who became an educator, speaker and filmmaker. He is not a physician or a registered dietitian, and no degrees or licenses are listed in his bio.
What the Workshop Says It Covers
According to the event description, the live session will explore:
- “The 3 Missing Pieces”: factors the host says are often overlooked in mainstream gut health programs.
- The testing question: why commercial food sensitivity panels are not considered reliable diagnostic tools, and what questions to ask instead.
- The fatigue connection: the host’s explanation for low energy and post-meal crashes.
- Symptoms beyond digestion: how brain fog, skin flare-ups and joint pain are sometimes discussed in connection with gut health.
- Why food reactions may develop: the host’s explanation of why the body can start reacting to foods, and the approaches he suggests.
- Calming the system: gentle strategies for stress and nervous system regulation, and ideas for reintroducing foods with a registered dietitian or doctor.
Keep in mind: these are the host’s perspectives and the event’s marketing description. Several of these topics, such as links between gut health and symptoms like brain fog or joint pain, are still being researched and are not settled science.
Who May Find This Workshop Useful?
- You’ve tried several elimination diets with limited or temporary results.
- You find your list of “safe” foods shrinking and feel anxious about meals.
- You have non-digestive symptoms and want to learn what questions to ask your doctor.
- You’re a health coach or wellness practitioner looking for an educational overview.
Who Is This NOT For?
- People with severe or undiagnosed digestive symptoms, such as unexplained weight loss or blood in the stool, who need prompt medical evaluation.
- Anyone seeking a “magic pill,” a 30-day miracle cure, or permission to self-diagnose and replace professional care.
- Anyone looking for a rigid meal plan rather than an educational framework to discuss with their healthcare team.
A Word on Restrictive Diets
Cutting out many foods can shrink your diet unnecessarily and leave some people anxious about eating. If your “safe list” is getting shorter, talk to a registered dietitian. They can help you identify real triggers, make sure you’re still getting enough nutrition and reintroduce foods safely.
What You May Take Away
You may come away with a better understanding of how food reactions are discussed in the wellness world, and with questions to bring to your healthcare provider. Instead of only asking “What can’t I eat?”, you may feel more equipped to ask “How can I work with a professional to find my actual triggers?”

Lifestyle Medicine Summit

The Science of Self-Healing: A Practical Guide to the Lifestyle Medicine Summit
When managing chronic conditions, the traditional healthcare model often focuses heavily on symptom management through medication. However, a growing body of clinical research supports a foundational premise: if modifiable lifestyle factors contribute to the development of chronic diseases, systematically improving those same factors can significantly alter the disease trajectory, and in some cases, support remission.
This is the core principle of Lifestyle Medicine. It is not a fringe alternative, but a growing field of medicine, with physician certification offered through the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine. Focused on using whole-food, plant-predominant eating, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connections as primary therapeutic modalities.
To help clinicians, health coaches, and everyday individuals integrate these principles into daily life, the Lifestyle Medicine Summit returns for its 10th anniversary. Running from October 20–25, 2026, this free, virtual event brings together over 25 physicians, researchers, and health coaching pioneers to explore how evidence-based lifestyle interventions can be practically applied to prevent, manage, and, where supported by data, reverse chronic conditions.
Event Details:

⚠️ Crucial Medical Disclaimer: This article and the associated summit are for general educational and professional development purposes only. They do not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Lifestyle interventions should be implemented under the guidance of a licensed healthcare provider. Never discontinue prescribed medications or alter a clinical treatment plan without consulting your physician. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, seek immediate care.
Meet Your Host
The summit is organized and hosted by Johannes R. Fisslinger, M.A., LPHCS, the founder of Lifestyle Prescriptions® University. With a background in health coaching and lifestyle medicine education, Fisslinger has dedicated his career to bridging the gap between clinical research and practical, everyday application. He is the author of The 7 Lifestyle Medicine Superpowers and focuses on equipping both patients and providers with actionable, micro-habit strategies to support long-term behavioral change.
Featured Experts and Their Focus Areas
The summit features a diverse lineup of established researchers and clinicians. A few notable contributors include:
- Dean Ornish, MD: A pioneering clinical researcher and founder of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute. He will discuss the unifying theory of lifestyle medicine, drawing on decades of research demonstrating how comprehensive lifestyle changes can support the reversal of certain chronic conditions, including coronary heart disease.
- Dr. Neal Barnard, MD: A physician and researcher affiliated with George Washington University, who will explore the clinical evidence surrounding plant-based nutritional interventions and their role in managing and reversing type 2 diabetes.
- Dr. Beth Frates, MD: An Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and past president of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM), focusing on the critical importance of provider self-care and reducing clinical burnout.
- T. Colin Campbell, PhD: Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University, known for his extensive research on the relationship between diet and disease, including the findings of The China Study.
- Dr. Ayesha and Dr. Dean Sherzai: Neurologists and researchers who will discuss evidence-based lifestyle protocols for building cognitive reserve and supporting long-term brain health.
What the Summit Covers: A Thematic Roadmap
Rather than a rigid daily schedule, the summit is structured around core pillars of lifestyle medicine, allowing attendees to explore topics most relevant to their personal or professional goals:
- The Science of Reversal & Prevention: Examining the clinical data behind lifestyle interventions for heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension, and understanding the physiological mechanisms of healing.
- Clinical Integration for Providers: Practical strategies for writing “micro-habit” lifestyle prescriptions during brief patient visits, and navigating value-based care models.
- Brain Health and Mental Wellbeing: Exploring the gut-brain axis, the impact of nutrition on mood and cognitive decline, and the role of stress management in neurological health.
- The Health Coaching Partnership: Defining the scope of practice for health coaches, establishing effective referral networks with physicians, and utilizing evidence-based behavior change methodologies.
- Self-Care and Patient Empowerment: Learning the “7 Lifestyle Medicine Superpowers” and discovering the specific, empowering questions to ask your doctor to ensure lifestyle factors are included in your personalized care plan.
Who Is This Summit For?
This event is specifically designed to provide value to three primary groups:
1. The General Public & Patients:
If you are navigating a chronic health condition, want to prioritize preventive self-care, or simply want to understand the root causes of health and wellness, this summit is for you. It is designed to be accessible, helping you learn the science behind lifestyle medicine so you can have informed, collaborative conversations with your healthcare team and advocate for your own well-being.
2. Healthcare Professionals and Clinicians:
If you are a physician, nurse practitioner, or allied health professional seeking to move beyond a purely pharmacological approach, this summit offers practical frameworks. It provides strategies to confidently prescribe personalized nutrition, stress resilience, and sleep hygiene, and offers up to 24 CE/CPD/CME credits (approved by organizations such as the NBHWC and IBLM/ABLM, depending on the access tier).
3. Health and Wellness Coaches:
If you are a certified health coach (or pursuing certification), this summit is designed to help you speak the language of clinical evidence. You will learn how to align your coaching methodologies with medical standards, build trusted collaborative relationships with referring physicians, and apply scientifically grounded tools for behavior change.
Who Is This NOT For?
To ensure safety and appropriate expectations, this event is not intended for:
- Patients seeking a guaranteed “cure” for a serious medical condition without the supervision of a licensed physician.
- Individuals looking to abruptly stop prescribed medications in favor of diet or lifestyle changes alone.
- Those seeking to bypass conventional medical diagnostics or acute care in favor of unproven alternative therapies.
What You May Take Away
Over the course of the event, attendees will move from theoretical concepts to actionable strategies. You can expect to gain:
- Clinical Confidence (for providers/coaches): A clearer understanding of how to discuss lifestyle modifications without sounding judgmental or overwhelming.
- Self-Advocacy Tools (for the public): Practical frameworks for implementing the six pillars of lifestyle medicine into your daily routine, and the vocabulary to effectively discuss these options with your doctor.
- Interprofessional Clarity: A better understanding of how medical providers and health coaches can collaborate effectively to support whole-person care.
- Critical Evaluation Skills: The ability to distinguish between robust, peer-reviewed lifestyle medicine research and emerging, less-established health trends.
The Real Benefit: A Paradigm Shift in Care
The most significant value of the Lifestyle Medicine Summit is the perspective shift it offers. For clinicians, it provides a roadmap to address the root causes of chronic disease. For health coaches, it offers the credibility needed to become an integrated part of the modern healthcare team. And for the general public, it reinforces a powerful, research-backed truth: empowering yourself with actionable lifestyle tools is a useful way to work with your doctor and take control of your long-term health.
Join the Summit
You do not have to navigate the complexities of chronic disease management or preventive health with outdated tools alone.
